Education & Experience
After receiving his undergraduate degree at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, John attended Ohio Northern University, Pettit College of Law. Although he initially thought he wanted to be a tax attorney, John quickly determined Trial Law was his calling.
In addition to standard classes geared towards trial work, such as Evidence and Torts, John used every spare moment in school to participate in extra curricular activities giving him opportunities to participate in mock trial cases and receive helpful criticism from Lawyers and Judges so he felt prepared for the courtroom the moment he graduated and passed the Bar Exam.
While the extra activities were not required, they enabled John to gain expertise other students would learn only after graduating from Law School. Based on his performance within the school, he was chosen on numerous occasions to represent his school in competitions against other schools throughout the United States.
At the beginning of his sophomore year, he was asked to be an editor of the school’s Law Review. This is a quarterly publication consisting of articles written by Judges, Attorneys and students typically involving current legal issues for which there is no legal precedent. John was one of only a handful of students who, based on their academic performance, were offered the honor of being an Editor. John published several articles in the school’s law review. In May of 1984, John graduated from Law School ranked Number one (1) in his class, having achieved the highest grade point average of among approximately 200 students in his class.
Out of law school John was hired by a prominent law Firm in Miami and passed the Florida Bar a few months later on his first attempt. The job in Miami was challenging, giving him the opportunity to work on a multitude of cases such as representing large media companies, defending other law firms for legal malpractice and a multitude of Pro Bono work. He was convinced after that experience that he would never be representing large corporations and insurance companies and his calling was to represent the People vs the Powerful for injuries they cause.
John also realized he would not be happy living and raising a family in Miami. He found the beautiful rural lifestyle he needed in Stuart, Florida and moved there after only one year in Miami.
In August 1985 he moved to Stuart and joined the Law Firm of Warner, Fox & Seeley, Attorneys PA.. After a short time he became a junior partner and became a named partner of the firm in 1993. The Warner firm was a multifaceted firm with attorneys practicing commercial litigation, business Law, Tax Law, Real Estate and needs of the firm’s clients. John practiced Plaintiff’s Personal Injury Work.
While there were some benefits to working in a multi-practice firm, John believed he could better serve his clients if his entire law practice and his employees focused entirely on representing injured victims. He opened The Injury Law Offices of John T. Kennedy March 1, 1994. The Office is committed to the philosophy that injured people are more deserving and in need of excellent legal representation so they will be on equal footing in courts battling Large Corporations and Insurance companies.
Some Plaintiff attorneys are proud to say they have worked for insurance companies. On the other hand, John is proud to say , ethically, he could never represent wrongdoers trying to deny injured people the justice they deserve, nor does he associate with those lawyers who pick their clients based on anything but the calling for justice.
Many of the car accident victims he has represented for almost thirty (30) years had common legal problems which required Mr. Kennedy to expand his practice to include Social Security Disability and Workers Compensation cases. It is not uncommon for accident victims to have a multitude of Legal Remedies and John wants to make sure his clients get every dime they are entitled to under the Law.
The majority of Mr. Kennedy’s practice are residents of Martin, St. Lucie, Okeechobee and Palm Beach Counties.
In order to facilitate this broad base of clients, John has offices in Port. St. Lucie, Ft. Pierce and Okeechobee, with his main Office in Stuart next to Martin Memorial Hospital North on the beautiful St. Lucie River.
In 2005, Attorney Marie Zequeira joined the firm to assist John in the personal Injury Practice. Attorney Zequeira, however, brought numerous years of experience in the Immigration field so the firm is now one of the few in this area which can also offer this service.
